Checkers is played on an 8x8 board using dark squares only. Each player has 12 pieces. Regular pieces move diagonally forward one square. Jump over opponent pieces to capture them. If you can jump, you must. Reach the opposite end to become a King that moves in all diagonal directions.

American Checkers (Draughts) uses an 8x8 board. Pieces move diagonally forward on dark squares. Captures are mandatory. Multi-jump chains are required when available. Kings can move diagonally in any direction. You win when your opponent has no pieces or no valid moves. A draw occurs after 40 moves with no captures.
